Maybe it’s because I have opened myself up to new possibilities and I’m looking for encouragement, but lately I feel like the world around me is combining in a supportive effort to cheer for the artists, nudging them to realize their potential, to make a difference, and to improve both their world and the wider world.
With books like Show Your Work by Austin Kleon, that encourages artists to make art, get it out there, and keep at it, daily emails from Seth Godin about business and creativity, it’s not hard to find a bit of reassurance that the journey is worth the effort.
Although I’m still just a beginner selling online at Etsy, this creative community is ripe with encouragement at every turn. There are teams to help improve all aspects of your Etsy shop, seeming endless blog posts on every possible business aspect. It’s all there!
Another trick I learned from Etsy– finding a partner who wants to brave the path with you can make a substantial difference. During the February Etsy school I began a partnership with Tamara (from WOLF JEWELS) that has continued past our school assignments and has kept me pushing ahead with a weekly checkin about progress and goals. It makes such a difference when you’re held accountable to someone!
In the spirit of community support, a fun tool in Etsy is the treasury collection. These give you the opportunity to curate a selection of items as if you’re a magazine editor. For me it’s a shopping spree with regard only to beauty and not to price. Yes, like a dream come true. Here’s a link to all of the treasuries I’ve done so far, and an embedded version of one is below.
Happy Easter to all! Here’s what I’ll be doing to decorate my Easter table.
